B&E Bank Tasmania are another bank that solely operates in Tasmania instead of the mainland, with 8 branches around the island.
History of B&E dates bank to 1870 with the Launceston Equitable Building and Investment Society making its first loan for $400 to one James Brickhill for a small bit of land in Brisbane Street.
As well, in 1968, a group of businessmen came together and decided enough is enough, and formed their own building society on the north coast for coastal homes. This organisation was known as the Bass Building Society.
In 1988, the two building societies combined taking Bass & Equitable to become the largest non-banking financial institution in Tasmania. 2001 saw the organisation re-branded to B&E and began offering a far wider range of services to cater to the Tasmanian residents.
Today, the bank sits on numbers of around $3 million in profit and around $700 million in total assets.
