Australian and New Zealand Bank (ANZ) dates its history back to 1835, when it originally began in London as The Bank of Australasia. Fast forward over 100 years to 1951, and the ANZ Bank was formed through the merger of The Bank of Australasia and the Union Bank of Australia.
From there, the bank has expanded all over the country, including Tasmania. They have also crossed the oceans with branches located in Fiji, New Zealand, Papau New Guinea, Malaysia, and even Japan.
ANZ have a majority of their branches in the major cities of Tasmania. However there are a few scattered in more rural areas such as Saint Helens, Smithton, Scottsdale, and Wynyard.
Recently in April 2016, the bank has come under fire for closing a number of branches in other areas. Cygney, Bicheno, Bridport, and Swansea all had their branches closed by May 2016.
